If you're a developer, you should be excited about virtual currency. It's like living in a real-life Mario Bros game, collecting coins that have real value.
Unfortunately, there is so much to learn in this space that it may seem overwhelming. But, you shouldn't let this discourage you from jumping into the awesome world of Web3.
Solana will make this jump a lot easier. Not familiar with Solana? No problem, let's learn a bit more 👇
💡 Solana Basics
Solana is a cryptocurrency used to fund transactions on a decentralized network. It has an amazing ecosystem that empowers developers to build apps on their blockchain.
Similar to Ethereum ERC-20 tokens, Solana has a program that allows you to create your own Crypto Token which runs on the Solana Blockchain. Solana and Ethereum allow developers to create their own tokens (including NFT's) to build decentralized applications.
Ethereum is very popular; however, many developers complain about the slow and expensive transactions, whereas Solana has built their blockchain to overcome those obstacles. That's why many developers are migrating over to Solana.
🤓 Developer Friendly
I like to say that Solana is to Blockchain what Stripe is to Payment Providers. Solana makes it easy to build applications on their blockchain.
After hearing a lot about Solana, I had to check it out for myself. I visited their website and loved the aesthetics. This sent me down a rabbit hole of digging deeper into their docs, learning some acronyms, and finding out how to use their blockchain to create my own token.
Solana has some excellent documentation for learning how to interact with their blockchain, building your own token, and so much more 🕺
🌎 A Real-World Scenario
Imagine an application that allows users to log in and earn points for doing various things on your app. In a Web3 application, you could use crypto tokens instead of points. You could optionally add a liquidity pool to your token, adding real monetary value to your token.
Creating a crypto token is much simpler than you might think. Using the Solana Program Library, you can easily create your own Token (also referred to as an SPL-token). You can also check out this tutorial, which gives step-by-step instructions on how to create your own token.
😣 Don't Get Discouraged
There is so much to learn about crypto that it may seem overwhelming, but don't let that discourage you from learning this awesome technology. Take it one day at a time and learn a little bit each day, and eventually, it will all start coming together. It gets even more fun the more you learn 😉
📚 Learning More
You can learn more about Solana by visiting their website, checking out their Youtube channel, and eventually, we'll have more tutorials on the DevDojo about this awesome Cryptocurrency.
Not only will we have additional tutorials about Solana on our website, but we'll also be creating our own Token called the DEV Coin, which will allow you to perform various tasks on the site and earn tokens along the way 😉
The world of Web3 is so exciting and has so many ways that it can be used to build new apps and utilities. I hope I've convinced you to dig a little deeper into developing with Web3, and I hope you have an excellent day 😎
